A free, self-contained French course that takes a complete beginner from A0 to A2: the full 36-lesson A1 course plus the first three parts of A2 — 45 lessons in 9 parts.
What this site is
This site is a free French course for people who are starting from zero. It has 45 lessons in 9 parts: the complete A0 → A1 course (36 lessons in 6 parts) and then the first three parts of A2. It follows the Common European Framework levels A0 to A2.
The whole course is self-contained. Every lesson, every quiz, the review tests and the final exam are inside the site. There is no separate workbook to buy and no video to stream.
The course covers the basics a beginner really needs: greetings, the alphabet and its sounds, numbers, family, daily routine, food, shopping, travel, the past, and the near future.
Who this course is for
It is written for complete beginners. You do not need any French at all before you start.
It is made with care for learners whose first language is not English. Every French word, sentence, grammar note and question can be shown in your own language, with the English kept beside it.
You can also use it for revision if you studied French once and want a calm, ordered way back to A1.
Your own language, in one click
The globe button in the header lets you choose your language. A hundred languages are offered, including Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Bengali, Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto, Persian, Turkish, Indonesian, Spanish, Chinese and Swahili.
English and Urdu are built into the site and need no internet at all. If you choose another language, the English text of a lesson is sent to free online translation services and the result is saved in your browser for next time.
Your chosen language stays on. Every later page you open is shown in it, and the English line always stays on the screen beside it, so you always have a reliable version to check against.
What is inside every lesson
Every lesson has the same shape, so you always know what is coming next. It starts with the objective, then the vocabulary and one or two grammar points.
After that come more than ten examples, a pronunciation coach, a short dialogue, speaking drills and a listening script with questions.
The lesson closes with translation practice, a ten-question quiz with an answer key, common mistakes to avoid, a quick revision and a homework task.
Each lesson also ends with a paste-ready voice script. It is plain French text that you can copy into any voice tool. The site itself does not record, store or serve any audio file.
Pronunciation help for beginners
Every word and sentence shows its sound twice: once in English letters, such as bon-zhoor, and once in Urdu letters.
These spellings are beginner-friendly approximations. They are not exact phonetics, and some French sounds cannot honestly be written in English or Urdu letters at all.
Where that is true, the lesson says so and describes the mouth position instead of giving a spelling that would mislead you. A star marks a spelling that is only close.
Audio on the site
Spoken French is produced by your own browser, using its built-in French speech engine. No sound files are downloaded and nothing is sent anywhere.
Chrome and Edge usually have the best French voices. There is a slow button and a natural-speed button, and a settings panel where you can pick a voice and change the speed.
Tests, reviews and exams
Your learning is checked as you go. There are 4 review tests, after lessons 6, 12, 24 and 36 of the A0 → A1 course.
There are 2 mini exams at A1 level, after lessons 18 and 30, and one final A1 exam with all eight sections.
Every quiz shows your score, explains each question and gives the answer key. Nothing is revealed until you press the button to check your answers.
Free, and no account needed
The course is free. There is no price, no subscription and no free trial that runs out.
You do not need an account, an email address or a login. You can open lesson 1 and begin straight away.
Your progress is saved only inside your own browser. You can clear it at any time, and nobody else can see it.
Where the course stops
This course stops at A1 on purpose. It does not teach A2.
You will not find the imperfect tense, the simple future, the conditional, the subjunctive or the pluperfect here. Those belong to a later level and are best learned once A1 is solid.
A few fixed phrases, such as a restaurant courtesy and a shop phrase, appear early because they are useful as whole chunks. Each one is clearly marked as a ready-made phrase whose grammar comes later.
