This mini exam covers lessons 19 to 30 and recycles the key points from lessons 1 to 18. It tests food, the restaurant, shopping, directions, time and dates, demonstratives, the passé composé with avoir and être, the futur proche, pouvoir / vouloir / devoir, the imperative and health. This is the peak of A1, so work slowly.

Grammar

  • Which verbs use ÊTRE in the passé composé? Verbs of movement and change: aller, venir, arriver, partir, entrer, sortir, rester, tomber, naître, mourir.
  • Complete: Je ___ allé au marché. Je suis allé au marché.
  • How does the past participle agree with the subject after ÊTRE? It agrees like an adjective: elle est allée, ils sont allés.
  • How do you form the futur proche? aller in the present + infinitive: je vais manger.
  • Say 'I am going to visit my friend tomorrow'. Je vais visiter mon ami demain.
  • How do you use pouvoir with an infinitive? je peux + infinitive (I can); je ne peux pas (I cannot).
  • How do you say 'I want to sleep'? Je veux dormir.
  • How do you say 'We must work'? Nous devons travailler.
  • How do you form the imperative? Use the verb without the subject: Mange ! / Mangeons ! / Mangez !
