The French U (tu, salut, rue)

This sound does NOT exist in Urdu or English. It is NOT 'oo' and NOT 'ee'. It is between them.

Tip

HOW TO MAKE IT: 1) Say 'ee' (ی) and hold it. 2) Keep your tongue exactly there. 3) Now slowly round your lips into a tight small circle, like whistling. The sound that comes out is French U. Practise: ee → ü, ee → ü.

We write it as 'ü' in the pronunciation guide. Any English/Urdu spelling of this sound is misleading — trust your ears and the mouth position, not the letters.
